Classy is the first word that comes to mind when we think of Teri & Mike’s wedding. Classy and stunning. It’s no secret that we love weddings at The Langham in Chicago with their tall windows, elegant decor, and pink taxi. Their wedding brought together all of that along with fun and unique personal details from their guestbook to their cake to their party favors.
Teri and Mike each got ready with their respective halves of the bridal party in Langham rooms before meeting for a sweet first glance in front of the third floor’s grand piano.
Both bridesmaids and groomsmen donned all black attire, which provided a beautiful contrast to the all-white decor of the couple’s ceremony and reception later in the day.
After the first glance, the whole group headed out into the city to capture the classic Chicago bridge pictures as well as a few shots in front of the iconic pink taxi.
Meanwhile back at the hotel, our staff, The Langham staff, and Avant Gardenia were hard at work getting the ceremony space set up. The Devonshire Ballroom was used for both the ceremony and the reception with the cocktail hour being held just outside while the staff flipped the room in between.
After the ceremony, we snuck Teri and Mike away for a brief moment to sit, breathe, and enjoy a glass of champagne ready and waiting for them in a private room on the floor. Outside, their guests enjoyed fabulous hors d’oeuvres and drinks at the cocktail hour. A wedding day is a nonstop whirlwind, so it’s common for couples to need a second to collect themselves midway through the event. It’s not long, though, before we pull them out again to greet their guests and grab some necessary food. Before long, the doors to the reception were open.
Reception music is a huge detail. Whether you have a live band or a DJ, having good music is vital for a good party. Sway Chicago was the perfect group for this night, playing hits from every decade and keeping the energy alive from the first dance to the last song.
The all white and silver reception decor fit the style of the ballroom perfectly. The lavish white centerpieces lit up the room and left space for the couple to have some fun with their other details. For example, the cake from Sugar Fixe, pictured below, was rolled in rainbow sprinkles with a Pinterest-worthy white frosting bow on top.
Other details included a Jenga guest book where guests could leave notes on Jenga pieces for the couple to use in what is one of their favorite games. The favors at the end of the night were snack bags of Garrett’s Popcorn, a local favorite, so guests could take home a little taste of Chicago.
