The “getting to know you” phase is extremely important in all relationships. Couples meet, get to know each other, fall in love, and eventually get married. At Effortless Events, we want to do the same thing; we want to meet you, tell you about our work and find out what you are looking for in order to help you fall in love with a perfectly designed wedding day.
Before we plan one of the most important days of your life, we want you to know who we are and why we do what we do. All of that starts with our owner’s life-long passion that she made a reality.
Parties for friends turned into parties for businesses for Cindy Shanholtz, owner and creative director, which is why she left the corporate world to become an event planner. After a not so subtle push from her family and friends, Cindy started her own business – Effortless Events. Cindy has taken her background as financial and strategic analyst and paired it with years of experience at a catering company, making her the perfect fit for planning any event.
Over the course of the past 10 years, our team has seen great success and has had the opportunity to work on over 500 events. In the minds of our staff, specifically Danielle Kuhn, senior planner, it is not the success that matters, it is the special moments we create for our clients.
From the surface, event planning may seem glamorous, but when your desk is piling up with seating charts and catering contracts it can feel quite the opposite. For us, all of the detailed work we spend planning pays off when we see the couple’s reaction.
After spending the summer of 2014 as an intern, Danielle officially joined the team in January of 2015. The combination of the pair’s strengths and weaknesses make them the perfect team. Cindy’s business-minded personality and Danielle’s attention to detail allow them to collaborate to create captivating and memorable events.
We started off this post by mentioning the importance of the “getting to know you” phase and now that you have a small idea about our work backgrounds, we want to share a bit of our personalities through our favorite wedding memories.
One would likely assume that recalling specific moments of each wedding day would be difficult, but that is not the case for our staff. The only issue that we ran into was narrowing it down to just one.
Cindy – “When the newlyweds take to the dance floor to have their first dance as a married couple, all eyes are on them. I remember one couple’s first dance was to “Feel My Love,” by Adele. The last song of the night was announced and it was also Adele’s “Feel My Love” but with a male singer. He sounded really good, and I was trying to figure what male singer’s voice it was. The groom had surprised everyone by going into a recording studio to sing and record his own rendition of their first dance song. What a way to end the night!”
Danielle – “One of my clients was from Eastern Europe, and unfortunately a few of the bride’s closest family members were not able to attend the wedding in Chicago. The groom planned a surprise video to be played at the reception in front of all the guests. We were able to coordinate a drop down screen and play the video with a projector. I have never seen so many tears of happiness in my life, and I definitely had to walk out of the room for a minute to hold myself together. Seeing the bride (and her other family members) show so much emotion definitely made this a top moment in my career.”
